lyrics

The downslide

I once saw the path before me
As an un-ending journey
I believed that the road went on forever
Not so, as it is plainly true

Now I see the summit approaching
With the downslide getting closer
Mortality is reality,
extreme becomes mainstream

What to make of all this?
Not so very long ago
I felt invincible, superman
Always ready with an answer
My father used to say that any day
Spent above the ground,
Upright, was a good one…

I will strive to leave a good path behind me
Leaving good footsteps to follow
If a bit of me is alive in my children
Then I have lived a good life, not hollow

My path is not ended yet
I still have more to say
Just a struggle to put it all
Into words
But it will all come out
At the end of the day
